Marcela C, mostly known as Thais, was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1981. She moved to Argentina, living her first years there. Also an Italian citizen, her mix of latin cultures is one reason for her open mind and outgoing personality. Her passion for music started as a child, and in these early years she was already known for her poetry and huge capability to sing, play instruments and write music.
In 1997 she first got involved in South American hip-hop, when the movement there was just beginning, and recorded her first album with the band Azertijo. Following this first release, Thais followed the logical progression into sampling and digital music, working with various hip-hop, r n' b, breakbeat and drum n' bass artists. Over the next five years, she concentrated on music theory - including singing, composition and production. Investing in a home studio, she now had the ability and means to pursue a solo career, as well as continuing and expanding in collaboration with many existing and new artists worldwide.
As well as her studio career, performing live has always been of equal importance. She has graced the stages of many venues throughout her country, and performed at huge festivals including Earthdance, Heineken and also the monumental Love Parade. Inevitably, with her sparkling vocals, stage presence and fashionable style, Thais was approached by Adidas who enrolled her for full sponsorship.
TV and radio performances soon followed, and worldwide interest from labels, producers and promoters. Her vocal work is in high demand, and Thais has now collaborated with AAA from Last Minute to work on several drum n' bass projects. Defying categorization, she also accepted an offer to front the rock group, Rebel - already gaining interest from Sony Music and receiving extensive radio airplay in South America. Already an inspiration to many musicians and artists in her country, Thais is certainly one to watch.
